New Life for Old Doors

My dear husband finally dug out some stashed away treasures in our "old" garage.  One such thing to resurface after being hidden away for at least five years was this pair of old french doors.

One side was in pretty bad shape so we removed the glass and used it as a top on one of our raised garden beds.

(Please forgive all of the DIRT as we are still in the "covering it up" mode.  I think the most time consuming part of building our new house has been the landscaping.   This patch of dirt will be dealt with next weekend when we lay down some sod and add a few more raised beds.)

After the glass was removed, there was an interesting pile of wood left over.  When I went to go play with it, it was already in the garbage can.  Gasp! After a minor protest, a few of the better pieces were fished out.

Which I promptly made into these little stars

The other side of the french door was saved for inside.  That is still a work in progress ;)

Teacher Thank You Gifts

Even though our Wee One is only in pre-school, Friday marks the end of the school year for us.  We have been incredibly lucky to have the most amazing pre-school teachers in the entire world.  (Yes, we really love them that much!)

One of the gifts that we will be giving to the teachers this year are these cute little magnets.  The Wee One and I had fun making these the other night:

 Supplies needed:

Pre-cut wooden circles (or any other shape your heart desires)
Package of round magnets
Paint color of your choice
Paint brush
Pretty patterned papers of your choice
Pencil & scissors
Glue stick
Lightweight sandpaper
Hot glue gun

Choose your papers and trace your circle on the backside then cut out your circles:

Paint each circle front and sides (and back if you wish) & let dry for a few minutes

Glue your paper circles to the front of the painted circle.  I prefer to lightly sand the edges to give them a little shabby look.

Grab your embellishments form your scrapbooking stash and go to town!

Hot glue a magnet to the back when you are finished and viola - a cute, simple & easy gift:

We plan to give each teacher a set of six along with a gift card to their favorite coffee place.

Farm Chicks Show Finds

The Farm Chicks Show was amazing - as usual and has given me lots of fuel for my creative juices.  Now, I just need to get busy doing instead of dreaming.

Here are some of my favorite finds (well, aren't they all favorites???):

This darling little chair for my bathroom.  I plan to cover the seat with a black & white print.

Some old brass knobs that will be made into a hanger

Old chicken feeder for the garden (I think...)

Cute soap dish for the kitchen

An old level that just looked cool

And some large frames to be turned into a chalk board and cork board for the craft room/office

There were so many amazing items at the show and I REALLY wanted to buy more but we need to figure out our seating in the living room before I go buy a bunch of "stuff".  It was mostly a "field trip" for ideas with a few fun finds picked up along the way.
