This little game table had been stashed in our shop, all cold and lonely, just waiting for a new chance at life.
One of our old cats, Oliver the Traveler, had scratched the top pretty good one day when he was sword fighting with one of the dogs.
Okay, so he didn't really have a sword.
But if he could have, he would have.
But if he could have, he would have.
After he scratched it all up and the dog recovered from the ambush, the table was stashed away. "Too much work and time to fix it" I thought.
Over the summer, it came out of the shop for a sanding.
(Before I discovered chalk paint...)
(Before I discovered chalk paint...)
Then it sat and became a catch all table when I couldn't decide what color to paint it.
Finally, I decided on a barn red. Why? I have no idea but it looks fun.
You can even flip over the checkerboard to play backgammon which I have no idea how to play. Miss Addison suggested I ask ask
"O Google the Wise One" for directions.
Regardless of my ability to play backgammon, with it's fresh new face, it makes playing checkers so much more fun.

Keep the cat away from it. Or just in case, keep the backgammon side showing!

Love the barn red! It's always more fun to play on a red table....or is that just me! HA!

Checkers always did make him a little nuts. Our cats now are not as crazy as he was...well, just crazy in different ways. I miss that little bugger!
Thanks Holly. There is something about red...and barn red especially.
That is adorable!
You did a wonderful job, definitely liking that barn yard red!
Thanks Shannon!

I absolutely love this table!
And we play Backgammon ALL the time - one of the oldest games in history, and VERY addictive.
I love the job you did on that piece, wow - and the red is to-die-for perfect!
Cute project--luv the red! Thank you for sharing this lovely post at Potpourri Friday!
Thank you for your kind words. I have been over to your blog and am in love!
Thanks Cassie!
Thanks Michelle! My goal for the weekend is to learn to play backgammon :)
Thanks Honey!
Glad you finally got to refinishing, cause this piece looks great now. Love the barn red. I won't play checkers with my hubs anymore because he always smugly wins! I used to play backgammon a lot, but forgot how to play. Are you doing to keep it in hiding from your cat? Thanks for sharing your creative inspiration at Sunday's Best party!
Love checkerboard tables! Thanks for linking up at Feathered Nest Friday!
Love this idea...I'm not good at checkers though! Glad I stumbled on your blog...I'm following you so stop by and follow back, so we can keep in touch. Hope to see you soon, Lori
Thanks for visiting Lori and for the follow. I am headed over to your blog :)
Thank you for hosting such a fun party each week :)
That's how I feel about playing checkers with my 6 year old. She is realllly good and now she knows it. Checkers have a way of mesmerizing a cat...must be the little black circles or something. We can rarely play without being sabotaged.
What a fun makeover, thanks for sharing at Restyled Sundays.
So adorable!! Thanks for linking up! Have you registered for my giveaway?
